Tree Removal

Sometimes a tree needs to be removed. At Southfleet Tree & Grounds Maintenance we advocate for the tree, favouring careful management over removal, but sometimes that simply isn't possible. In some instances a tree is diseased and putting healthy trees at risk, a dead or dying tree may pose a risk to foot traffic or roadways, a tree may need to be removed for a construction development. We understand that there is not a one size fits all approach.

We can provide expert advice, helping you to understand when removal is the best option and giving you the information required to make informed decisions. Contact us to discuss the best options for your property.

Felling

Felling is the process by which a tree is removed by cutting the base with a chainsaw, allowing the tree to fall safely to the ground. Our highly trained and experienced arboricultural team members are experts at understanding when this process is safe to use, how to correctly carry it out, and when it's appropriate.

This option is best utilised when there is open space, providing an unrestricted drop zone for the tree to fall, and any debris produced to fall harmlessly to the ground.

This process performed by an untrained individual is dangerous and should only be performed by those with the correct training, in the correct environment.

Rigging&Sectional Dismantling

Rigging and sectional dismantling refers to the process of removing a tree (Or parts of a tree) by climbing, roping, and lowering in a controlled manner. This a highly effective but highly specialised process, utilsing an understanding of physics, leverages, and mechanical advantages. We most often utilise this process when space is limited, where there is a sensitive area to be avoided (say a road, footpath or building) or when the safety of the dismantling is of a concern.

Our highly trained and proficient teams are qualified and insured to carry out high level rigging and sectional dismantling.

Mechanical Dismantling

In the event that the climbing of a tree or the rigging and sectional dismantling are too dangerous or unpredictable to undertake, mechanical means can be used to dismantle and remove the tree. Utilising MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms),  Cranes, or Grabs, the branches and wood of the tree can be safely cut with no risk to a climber.

This process is utilised when a tree presents substantial decay, power or phone lines make dropping larger pieces complicated, or where there is a difficult to reach tree that cant be accessed via traditional climbing methods.

Our Arboricultural team is highly trained in the use of this machinery and it must only be undertaken by those correctly trained to do so.

FAQ

Q : A tree is really close to my house, can it still be safely removed?

A : Yes, we utilise the latest techniques along with the latest technology and training to ensure each removal is safely undertaken, even when they are close to something that can be damaged.

Q : I feel bad removing a tree, is it the best thing?

Q : What happens to the waste?

A : We are dedicated to environmental consciousness. None of our arisings go to waste. Some go to local allotments and schools and others are taken to a specialist processing site from where it goes to the biomass power plant in Sandwich.
